Ingredients

For the Fries

  • 800g frozen skin-on fries
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt

For the Toppings

  • 200g mature cheddar cheese, grated
  • 8 rashers streaky bacon, diced
  • 2 spring onions, finely sliced
  • 1 red chilli, finely sliced (optional)

Fire Dragon Sauce

  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp honey

Method

Step 1 – Prepare the Fries

Preheat your oven to 220°C (200°C fan).

Place the fries onto a large baking tray.

Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle over the smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt.

Toss well until evenly coated.

Step 2 – Bake Until Golden

Bake the fries according to packet instructions, usually 25–30 minutes.

Turn halfway through cooking to ensure even crispness.

Step 3 – Cook the Bacon

While the fries cook, fry the diced bacon in a pan over medium heat until crispy.

Transfer to kitchen paper to drain excess fat.

Step 4 – Forge the Dragon Sauce

Mix together the mayonnaise, sriracha, hot sauce, smoked paprika, and honey.

Stir until smooth.

Step 5 – Assemble the Feast

Transfer the cooked fries to a large ovenproof dish or platter.

Scatter over the grated cheese and crispy bacon.

Return to the oven for 3–5 minutes until the cheese has melted.

Step 6 – Crown the Hoard

Remove from the oven.

Drizzle generously with Fire Dragon Sauce.

Finish with sliced spring onions and fresh chilli.

Serve immediately while hot and bubbling.

🐉 Dragon’s Tip

For extra crispy fries, spread them in a single layer and avoid overcrowding the tray. Dragons may hoard treasure, but fries need room to breathe.

🗺️ Adventurer’s Notes

🔥 Increase the Heat

Add diced jalapeños, extra chilli flakes, or a few drops of ghost pepper sauce.

🧀 Tavern Upgrade

Mix cheddar with mozzarella for an extra stretchy cheese pull.

🥩 Warrior’s Feast

Top with seasoned minced beef or pulled pork for a heartier meal.

🏕️ Campfire Method

Cook the fries in a cast-iron skillet over hot coals and add the toppings just before serving.

🌿 Ranger’s Alternative

Replace the bacon with crispy fried onions or vegetarian bacon pieces.

📜 Lore of the Hoard

The forges of Emberpeak never sleep. Long after sunset, workers gather around glowing furnaces sharing stories of dragons, treasure hunts, and heroic victories. To satisfy hungry craftsmen, tavern cooks created towering platters of loaded fries covered in whatever treasures the kitchen could spare.
