For the Fire Sauce

  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 x 400g tins chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato purΓ©e
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

To Serve

  • Fresh parsley
  • Grated cheese (optional)
  • Pasta, rice, or crusty bread

Method

Step 1 – Forge the Meatballs

Place the mince, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, paprika, chilli powder, salt, and pepper into a large bowl.

Mix thoroughly until combined.

Roll into approximately 16 equal-sized meatballs.

Step 2 – Brown the Meatballs

Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat.

Brown the meatballs for 5–6 minutes, turning regularly.

They do not need to be fully cooked at this stage.

Remove and set aside.

Step 3 – Create the Fire Sauce

Reduce the heat slightly.

Add the olive oil and diced onion.

Cook for 5 minutes until softened.

Add the garlic and cook for another minute.

Stir in the chopped tomatoes, tomato purΓ©e, smoked paprika, chilli flakes, sugar, salt, and pepper.

Bring to a gentle simmer.

Step 4 – Awaken the Dragonfire

Return the meatballs to the sauce.

Cover and simmer for 20–25 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.

Step 5 – Serve the Feast

Serve over pasta, rice, or alongside thick slices of crusty bread.

Finish with parsley and grated cheese if desired.

πŸ‰ Dragon’s Tip

Allow the meatball mixture to rest for 10 minutes before rolling. This helps the breadcrumbs absorb moisture and keeps the meatballs tender.

πŸ“œ Lore of the Hoard

In Ashfall Market, traders from every corner of the realm gather beneath banners stained by smoke and dragonfire. One tavern became famous for serving meatballs so large and flavourful that caravan guards would plan their journeys around stopping there. Legend says Captain Ashbeard once consumed three full bowls before negotiating a peace treaty between rival merchant guilds. Since then, Fiery Tavern Meatballs have been considered a symbol of good fortune, full bellies, and profitable journeys. πŸ”₯πŸ‰
